For those who haven't heard - we welcomed Claire Renee Powers into the world at 7:29am on Thursday, February 21, 2013. She weighed in at 7 lbs 4 oz - I know, hard to believe, right? I was sure the Doctors were reading the scale wrong or had one of their elbows on there by accident - but sure enough, this little girl is much bigger than her older sister was at birth! She is also a bit taller at 21" vs. Adilyn's 17" birth length. As hard as I try, I can't help but compare Claire with her sister - at least in terms of her stats; I will try to avoid comparing her too much, to not give her a complex :)

I'm so excited to see how they both continue to grow (physically, mentally, emotionally and in every other way). Dan said to me last night "I want to see Claire in like a year..." as we were comparing newborn pictures of Adi to her sister. We think the resemblance is definitely there - but Claire looks more like Adi at about 1 month than when she was first born.

Adilyn in the Hospital ~week 1 |
Adi meeting Claire - and checking out her present from little sister (backpack and some goodies to occupy her at the Hospital)
checking out Little Claire with Nanas & Dad
Day 2 visit to the Hospital - a little more interested in what Baby was up to
For those who are curious - here's the story - pretty 'boring' by medical standards (for which we are incredibly thankful)!
We had a scheduled c-section this time, since Adi's emergency C-section last time left me with some risk to not doing so. I worked until 4:30pm on Wednesday the 20th (from home) and spent the day getting laundry and dishes done and doing some last minute 'nesting'/organizing of the house. Our bags were packed and we dropped Adi off with G+G Powers to spend the night there. Dan and I went to bed about 9pm on Wednesday and I felt surprisingly rested when the alarm went off at 4:15am Thursday morning. Dan and I showered and got ready and calmly headed out the door with our things.
We arrived at the Hospital at 5:20am to check-in for a 7am 'section' as the nurse called it. They brought me to the room to change and get hooked up to monitor Baby's vitals for a bit. Then we calmly waited as the different nurses and doctors came in to update me on the process and next steps. I had blood drawn and just waited for my OB to show up and let me know she was ready. She came in promptly at 6:50am to let me know it was time and she'd see me in there. I was then escorted to the operating room and sat down on the table as they gave me the spinal (for which I still cringe, even though I can't see anything during) - and laid me back as I went numb from mid-chest down. Then they put up the curtain, brought Dan in and got started. The procedure lasted 1 hour from the time I entered the room to when they wheeled me out - and Claire Renee was born at 7:29am. Everything went very well and there were no complications for Baby or myself this time. All in all, it was pretty 'routine' in terms of the procedure. I then had to go the recovery area for 2 hours as they monitored my vitals - but this time, I was able to hold baby Claire the whole time. It was amazing and calm and beautiful to hold our Baby in my arms for that time in the quiet.
I kept telling the nurses that this experience was SO incredibly different than my first - to which they said, we are glad and reassured me that this is more 'normal' than what we experienced the first time. Needless to say, we are thankful that everything went so smoothly and probably better appreciate the experience now having been through something so different the first time.
The only thing that the Dr. did say was that had I labored at all, my uterus may have ruptured - as the incision from the first c-section was apparently starting to open. I am thankful for my Dr's wisdom and the peace I had about doing another c-section this time around, eliminating that risk.
Now - we are settling in at home, trying to get used to being a family of 4 and all that goes with it! I will update as much as I am able - but wanted to at least introduce you to our Claire bear :)
As you can see, Adi is warming up to Claire more and more each day. So far, I think she's probably given her close to 1,000 kisses - nothing like the love of your children loving each other to warm a Mother's heart! :)
