visiting

Well I realize it's been some time since I've updated - oops! Life has definitely been busy...it's finally starting to feel closer to summer, we've gotten together with great friends and work has been really chaotic for both Dan and I! All that said, we are loving every minute of it - although we have never been so exhausted!

The latest news is that Grandpa Dale is in town from FL! He got here on Monday and has been able to visit with Adi every evening since - have to pack in the time while we can since he hasn't seen her since she was born! Adilyn is loving the attention and time with her Grandpa D. 

As you can tell, they have wasted no time getting to know each other better. It really made me realize how much she's grown and changed in just 4 short months.  I can see why and how parents always remind you to cherish each moment, because time flies and before you know it, your kids are off on their own! Hard for me to imagine, so for now...I'll just love this moment!

Other than that, we've just been loving our lil girl - she continues to be alert and active and VERY aware of her surroundings.  It's so fun to just walk her around the house and watch her take everything in.  We've also started reading books to her and she seems pretty intrigued, especially by those with lots of bright colors.  We have also been taking advantage of the fact that she's pretty oblivious to what we're doing to her as you can see in a couple of photos below. I don't know why it's so darn cute when you get babies to look like/do stuff that's definitely beyond their current age range. :)

Maybe a little too early to start using chopsticks...but it looked like fun watching Mommy, Daddy and Grandpa eating sushi! Ok, maybe Mommy just thought it would be funny to try...

Well that's about all we have for now. I'll try to keep updating - but am pretty confident that the days of every day or every other day updates are gone...It's crazy how busy we are from the time we wake up until we force ourselves to bed because we know we should.  Adilyn is an absolute joy, but life is sure different now!  We have a busy weekend ahead of us too - so I'll make sure to capture some memories on film and post later....just no promises on when!

4 months...tech delay

SO I have to start by saying that it is not my fault that this is late - Blogger was down, so I couldn't post on this site for a few days.  It may have been back up yesterday, but I was not about to blog on a Sunday.

Biggest update since the last is that Adilyn turned 4 months! I know, I can hardly believe it either - but she is really that old already. 

She had a great check-up at the Dr. and they confirmed, again, that her cold is just a cold...Here are her stats:
Height: 22 & 1/4"
Weight: 9 lbs 7 oz
Head Size: 38.2cm

The Dr. was again very happy with Adi's growth - though she's still not quite on the charts, she's on her own great pace.  She got her second round of immunizations and was a little more aware of what was happening - so she cried a little longer than the first round.  All in all, she did great and was happy as a clam by the time we left the exam room.

Adi had another Dr. appointment on Friday - a follow up for her NICU stay with her UofM physician.  This check-up was a little more in depth than our normal Dr appointments with her Pediatrician.  Even though Adi is considered a full term baby, she did still have a 10 day stay at the NICU, so she will now be a part of these follow-ups for a while. She'll have a "baby IQ" test when she's 1 - a follow up at 2 for her social development - and another follow up at 5 or 6.  Even though the appointment took a total of 2 & 1/2 hours with waiting time, we're kind of looking forward to these specialized visits. 
We had visits from a Physicians Assistant, Occupational Therapist and one of the Dr's that visited her in the NICU.  All of them 'tested' her for her development - and they were all impressed with her "advanced" stages of development. She holds her head like a champ - not much flopping, if at all; she's a master of tummy time and lifting her head; her ab muscles are coming in nicely; her reaction and ability to follow their voices and faces was perfect; and she makes a strong superman when you 'fly' her. 
It was pretty fun to watch everyone ooh and ahh over her at the Dr. We also continue to be amazed at her sunny disposition - even though she got tired toward the end of the appointment, she was all smiles whenever someone talked to her or asked her to go on her tummy one more time.  We are so thankful for this joyful baby and feel so incredibly blessed.

One more note - then I'll be done bragging on her, for now. When I picked her up from daycare today, one of the workers let me know that Adi was not short on attention today. Apparently one of the teachers from one of the other rooms came in to the Nursery and spent her lunch hour holding Adilyn. Too funny! Apparently she's "irresistible"! :) Well we think so.

plans undone...

If there's one thing that the Lord has been teaching me over the past six months or so, it's that I cannot, and should not try to plot and plan this life out - because it is not mine and in the end, His plans are perfect. 
This past weekend was another example of that happening...
I was SO excited to finish up work on Friday and spend the weekend relaxing, enjoying the sun and celebrating Mother's Day. 
Friday was great - Dan and I went down to Lake of the Isles with Adi & Cade and took a walk. We also got to have a little picnic down by the water - which was great - just how I had pictured it all day.

Saturday, we got a few things done around the house (inside and out) - which was also great.  We also had some friends over for dinner for the first time, which was an added bonus.  It's fun making plans and trying to ease back into our new social life.  Things are a little different - revolve around Adi needing to eat and sleep - but it's definitely fun getting to know people and sharing a good meal! 

Sunday was the day that didn't go quite as I had imagined.  Looking back, it's so insignificant and I am just thankful for the time we had as a family to relax, but it didn't sit well with me at the time.  My Mom ended up getting sick, so she stopped by quick, but had to leave right away.  We had planned on celebrating with my Mom since we didn't see her for Easter.  I was pretty disappointed that she wasn't able to stay and spend time with us.  We did get to share a meal with my Sister - which was nice.  Then the afternoon brought us a little more unplanned activity - Adi was sick.  Now for some, a baby crying is a pretty normal thing...but we've been SO fortunate and Adi rarely cries. 
Sunday afternoon/evening was the exception.  She has been struggling with a bit of a stuffy nose, but it hadn't been affecting her eating or brought her temp up at all.  Sunday evening she had a slight fever (99.6) - and was extremely fussy.  We felt so bad for the lil peanut, as she cried and coughed and sneezed.  She started having trouble eating too.  I was nervous about her coughing, so Dan set up the pack 'n play in our room and she slept in there for the second time in her life.  Unfortunately for all of us, she was up most of the night coughing and moving around.  We brought her in to the Dr. this morning - but her temp. was back to normal and the Dr. said she looked great (lungs clear, throat clear, ears clear).  So I reluctantly dropped her off at daycare and headed to work.
My assumption is that Adilyn was sad that I had to drop her off at daycare while she was sick. You know how your Mom seems to always make you feel better when you're sick? No matter how old you are? I figure she feels the same - even though I can't give her chicken noodle soup yet.  Either way, she was fine at daycare and I got through a busy day at work. 
We were even able to take advantage of the warmer weather again today with a walk after dinner.  Though I have to say Adi is definitelyl not quite her perky self - as you can see she's a little tuckered.

This week has been pretty uneventful, in a good way...we seem to have a routine down and have had lots of fun playing at night after work!  Yesterday, our daycare had a Mother's Day brunch for us - and I got my first Mother's Day card...from Adi!
She also gave me a keychain that says Happy Mother's Day on the back - so cute!

I'm excited to spend the day celebrating my Mom on Sunday! I'm also proud to be a Mom this year.  Whether you get to spend time with your child or only have memories to celebrate, know that you are loved and honored as a Mother. 

new friends

This past weekend flew - of course they always do - but they seem to go even faster these days.  Much of our time is spent preparing for the week ahead and trying to savor every moment with our little, very active girl. 
On Friday night we had dinner with our friends Josh, Ashley and Riggins.  It was great catching up with friends and sharing a meal.  The babies both did great - though we weren't able to get a pic of the couple cause Riggins was a little sleepy - sorry about that night Ash, I hear it was rough...
Anyway, here are a few.  Still pretty darn cute!

The rest of the weekend was pretty quiet.  Since the weather hasn't been cooperating, Adi and I spent some quality time indoors on Saturday while Dan went to his friends' bachelor party for most of the day. Auntie Lola came over to play for a while too.  Other than that, we had a nice relaxing weekend - went to Church and Lovefeast on Sunday and got ready for the new week. 

For some reason, I was really tired this morning and didn't get Adi to daycare until almost 8am - we spent some time cuddling this morning.  It just seemed like a good day for it - gloomy and quiet in the morning.  I love that time with her and it was hard for me to be 'ready' to bring her to daycare.  Fortunately, the day went pretty quickly once I got to the office. 
Poor girl still has a bit of a stuffy nose though - and apparently had a little trouble with her bottle today.  We're going to try to clear it out so she can eat a little better tomorrow.  Our homemade saline solution seems to work pretty well.
